Ben Suyematsu and his family left California in 1919 and moved to Wyoming. He worked for the C.B. & Q (Chicago, Burlington & Quincy) Railroad, employment that eventually led to a job in Casper. He left the C.B. & Q during the national railroad strike of 1922, and opened a shoe repair shop in Casper that he operated for many years.
